Construction of the 220/110/10 kV «Serhetabat» Substation within the TAP500 Project, Turkmenistan

General Project Information:

The project forms part of the Turkmenistan — Afghanistan — Pakistan (TAP) international energy initiative aimed at establishing a power transmission corridor between Central and South Asia.

The Turkmenistan section includes an approximately 265 km double-circuit 220 kV overhead transmission line from the Mary State Power Plant to the Turkmen-Afghan border, as well as associated energy facilities in Mary and Serhetabat.

Scope of Work:

The project included civil, electrical installation, and commissioning works at the 220/110/10 kV «Serhetabat» Substation, including the expansion of the 220 kV outdoor switchyard with two additional feeders.  

Construction and Installation Works:

  • Earthworks and construction of foundations for equipment and steel structures; 
  • Installation of power transformers and electrical equipment; 
  • Installation of 220/110 kV outdoor switchyard and indoor switchgear equipment; 
  • Laying and connection of power and control cables; 
  • Installation of grounding systems; 
  • Expansion of the 220 kV outdoor switchyard with two additional feeders. 

Testing and Commissioning:

  • Testing of installed electrical equipment; 
  • Testing of grounding systems; 
  • Electrical installation and commissioning works; 
  • Verification of the technical readiness of equipment and switchgear; 
  • Preparation of as-built documentation and handover of the completed works.
