Construction Works for the TAP 220 kV Overhead Transmission Line, Turkmenistan

General Project Information:

The project involves the construction of an 86 km, 220 kV overhead transmission line in the Mary Province of Turkmenistan to develop the high-voltage grid infrastructure and transmit electricity from the Mary energy complex.

The construction of the line supports the development of Turkmenistan’s electricity export infrastructure and provides the technical capacity for power transmission towards Afghanistan. The project contributes to improving the reliability and transmission capacity of the power system and strengthening cross-border energy connections.

Scope of Work:

The project included comprehensive civil, installation, and commissioning works for the construction of an 86 km, 220 kV overhead transmission line.

220 kV Overhead Transmission Line Civil and Installation Works:

  • Route preparation, earthworks, and construction of tower foundations;
  • Assembly and erection of steel towers for the 220 kV overhead transmission line;
  • Installation of grounding systems. 

Conductor and Line Equipment Installation:

  • Conductor stringing, installation, and tensioning;
  • Installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) ;
  • Installation of insulators and line hardware. 

Testing and Commissioning:

  • Quality control and inspection of completed works;
  • Performance of project-specified tests;
  • Preparation of as-built documentation;
  • Participation in the acceptance process and preparation of the transmission line for commissioning.
